Manual assembly stations tend to have considerable error-potential, in particular owed to monotony as well as the lack of continuous quality and process verification possibilities. And even though product quality often depends on the exact observance of the assembly instructions, any tests and inspections are usually performed only on the finished product. The wizard controlled working table, a new development of the Rommel GmbH, now features PC-based step-by-step assembly instructions, which contribute to cycle time optimization through the combination and parallelization of manufacturing steps. Moreover, the simple and intuitive illustration of the assembly steps on the monitor is easy to understand – intensive training of new employees is therefore no longer required. In addition, the use of pictures and symbols instead of plain text eliminates any potential language barriers. Yet most notably, the vision system of Rommel’s wizard controlled working table enables the examination of every single assembly step, therefore allowing an early detection of potential assembly errors. The process is stopped until the error is corrected, thus ensuring a seamlessly controlled and fault-free assembly process and product. Thanks to the ergonomic design of the wizard controlled working table, further benefits - such as an increase in work efficiency as well as a risk reduction of postural injury - are achieved.
